CVE-2025-55005Public exploit

Process crash via unbounded logmap writes

Published Aug 13, 2025 · Updated Aug 13, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in ImageMagick before 7.1.2-1 allows local users to crash image processing via a crafted MIFF file. TransformsRGBImage sizes logmap for MaxMap+1 entries but derives write-loop bounds from unbounded reference-black and reference-white metadata, so values above 1024 write past the heap allocation. Exploitation requires the file to be processed with MIFF enabled; the websafe security policy blocks the demonstrated path, and the documented impact is a process crash.
