CVE-2025-55001Network attack vector

MFA bypass via unnormalized LDAP entity aliases

Published Aug 9, 2025 · Updated Aug 11, 2025

Authentication bypass in OpenBao before 2.3.2 allows remote authenticated users to evade alias-specific MFA through LDAP logins. The LDAP auth method accepts a whitespace-variant username after directory normalization but stores the caller's verbatim value as the entity alias. Reachability requires username_as_alias=true, equivalent LDAP names with leading or trailing spaces, valid LDAP credentials, and an alias-specific MFA rule; bypassed MFA grants the account's authorized access.
