Stored XSS via unvalidated profile-image upload
Published Aug 4, 2025 · Updated Aug 4, 2025
Unrestricted file upload in Thiago Alves OpenPLC Runtime 3 through 9cd8f1b allows remote authenticated users to host active content. The /edit-user profile-image handler preserves the submitted filename's final extension and saves the file under static without validating its type. Any authenticated account can place HTML or SVG at an unauthenticated /static URL, where opening it executes attacker-supplied JavaScript in a visitor's browser.
