CVE-2025-54870Network attack vector

Tunnel traffic disclosure via skipped encryption module

Published Aug 5, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2025

Fail-open encryption handling in leakingmemory vtun-ng 3.0.12 through 3.0.17 allows remote attackers to read tunnel traffic as plaintext. In Linkfd::new, an encryption factory returning None is silently skipped, leaving the encode/decode chain active without its encryption module. An encryption-initialization failure is required; blowfish-256 guarantees that failure, exposing confidentiality without altering traffic or service availability.
