CVE-2025-54770

Bootloader crash via stale net_set_vlan registration

Published Nov 18, 2025 · Updated Sep 1, 2026

Use-after-free in GNU GRUB 2.14 and earlier allows local users to crash the bootloader by invoking a stale network command. The network module registers net_set_vlan but leaves the command registered when unloaded, so later invocation dereferences freed module memory. Exploitation requires command execution after unloading the network module and interrupts boot availability through a crash.
