Account privilege reduction via unchecked RBAC update
Published Jul 25, 2025 · Updated Jul 25, 2025
Incorrect authorization in Abnormal Security before 2025-02-19 allows remote authenticated users to downgrade other users' privileges. The users_v2 RBAC endpoint accepts a crafted PUT request that changes a target user's role without verifying that the caller may alter that account. A lower administrative role, such as Portal Tenant Admin, can reduce a Portal Global Admin's permissions, but cannot elevate its own permissions.
