Administrator RCE via writable update server URL
Published Aug 1, 2025 · Updated Aug 1, 2025
Code injection in FreshRSS 1.26.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP code through the web updater. The system configuration accepts an administrator-controlled auto_update_url, then the updater writes the response body to data/update.php and executes it as PHP. Exploitation requires administrator access, enabled web updates, and writable source files; Docker, git deployments, and instances with updates disabled are unaffected.
