Code execution via unchecked MFER Tag 8 length
Published Aug 25, 2025 · Updated Aug 25, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in libbiosig 3.9.0 and Master Branch (35a819fa) allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted MFER file. In the Tag 8 branch of sopen_extended, the parser warns when len exceeds two bytes but still passes the untrusted length to ifread, which copies into a 128-byte stack buffer without a bounds check. Exploitation requires an application using the library to parse the supplied file and permits attacker-controlled data to overwrite the stack, enabling code execution in that application's context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
