Local crash via malformed xattr database fields
Published Aug 14, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Null pointer dereference in AIDE 0.13 through 0.19.1 allows local users to crash report printing or database listing via crafted xattrs. The db_char2line parser fails to validate Base64 decoding and comma-delimited fields, then dereferences a null xattr value. Exploitation requires write access to an xattr-capable file system, an xattr-enabled build, database generation, and a second AIDE run that lists or reports the value.
