CVE-2025-54384Network attack vector

Stored XSS via regex-stripped Markdown literal

Published Oct 29, 2025 · Updated Oct 29, 2025

Stored XSS in CKAN before 2.10.9 and 2.11.0 through 2.11.3 allows remote authenticated users to run script in a visitor's browser. The markdown_extract() helper converts user-controlled descriptions to Markdown, removes tags with a regular expression, and wraps the residue as an HTML literal instead of sanitizing the generated markup. Dataset, resource, organization, group, or extension pages must render the stored description, and a visitor must view the page; the script can read browser-accessible data or alter displayed content.
