Package-content substitution via inconsistent ZIP parsing
Published Aug 8, 2025 · Updated Aug 8, 2025
Interpretation conflict in Astral uv 0.8.5 and earlier allows attackers to substitute malicious package contents through crafted ZIPs. The streaming extractor trusted local file entries without reconciling them with the central directory, accepting duplicates or stacked ZIP contents. A user must install an attacker-controlled package; source ZIPs can execute code during a build, while wheels require a later invocation such as importing the package.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
