Security-check bypass via path misclassification
Published Sep 9, 2025 · Updated Sep 9, 2025
Improper path-equivalence resolution in Microsoft Windows MapUrlToZone allows remote attackers to bypass zone-based security checks. MapUrlToZone classifies a crafted remote path as a more trusted local or intranet zone because its path resolution differs from the API opening the resource; the exact path form is undisclosed. A user must open or follow the crafted content, and the resulting misclassification exposes information without reported integrity or availability impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
