Unauthenticated account takeover via unchecked token issuance
Published Jun 1, 2025 · Updated Jun 2, 2025
Improper access control in Mist.io Mist Community Edition 4.7.0 through 4.7.1 allows remote attackers to take over accounts via API tokens. The create_token function accepts a target email address and issues that user's token without verifying the submitted password. Knowledge of an account email is sufficient; no authentication or user interaction is required, and the token grants the victim's account permissions.
