SBOM tampering via world-writable APK metadata
Published Jul 18, 2025 · Updated Jul 18, 2025
Improper permissions in Chainguard Melange 0.23.0 through 0.29.4 allow local users to alter APK SBOM files in running images. The writeSBOM path called WorkspaceDirFS.Create without an explicit restrictive mode, producing 0666 permissions instead of owner-only writes. Exploitation requires unprivileged local access to an image containing an affected APK and can falsify scanner input or, under special circumstances, interrupt service.
