File read and modification via dictionary JavaScript
Published Jul 17, 2025 · Updated Jul 17, 2025
Exposed JavaScript execution in GoldenDict 1.5.0 and 1.5.1 allows attackers to read and modify files via crafted XDXF entries. XDXF article markup passes unsanitized script elements to the Qt browser engine without blocking JavaScript or enforcing a strong content security policy. Exploitation requires a user to install the dictionary and search a matching term; script access is limited to files available to the application, and Debian labels the report bogus.
