Physical root access via unauthenticated UART console
Published Sep 9, 2025 · Updated Sep 12, 2025
Improper privilege management in seven Calix GigaCenter ONT models allows physically proximate attackers to gain root access via UART. The Broadcom SoC debugging console accepts a 115200-baud serial connection and opens a full root shell without requesting credentials. Physical access, device disassembly, and a USB-to-UART adapter are required; affected models are 812G, 813G, 818G, 844E, 844G, 844GE, and 854GE.
