CVE-2025-53817Public exploit

Application crash via overflowing Compound stream size

Published Jul 17, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Null pointer dereference in 7-Zip before 25.0.0 allows local users to crash the application by extracting a crafted Compound file. In NArchive::NCom::CHandler::GetStream, item.Size addition overflows to zero, so ClearAndReserve allocates no vector storage before AddInReserved writes through its null pointer. The attacker must cause an affected local extraction path to process the malformed file; successful triggering terminates 7-Zip without reported data disclosure or modification.
