Remote code execution via oversized PWD argument
Published May 30, 2025 · Updated May 30, 2025
Buffer overflow in the PWD handler in FreeFloat FTP Server 1.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. The handler processes an oversized PWD argument without enforcing bounds; after 247 bytes, the public exploit overwrites a return address and runs supplied Windows shellcode. A reachable FTP service on TCP port 21 is sufficient, and anonymous login reaches the handler without prior privileges or user interaction.
