Memory disclosure via unchecked HCI event length
Published Jan 10, 2026 · Updated Jan 10, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Apache NimBLE 1.8 and earlier allows attackers to read memory through an oversized HCI H4 event. The hci_h4_sm_w4_header function derives the expected event length from the controller-supplied header but did not reject values exceeding BLE_TRANSPORT_EVT_SIZE. Exploitation requires a broken or bogus Bluetooth controller; the published assessment reports limited disclosure with no integrity or availability impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
