Stored XSS via unescaped search-result descriptions
Published Jul 3, 2025 · Updated Jul 3, 2025
Stored XSS in the legacy search bar in StarCitizen.tools Citizen allows remote attackers to execute script in searchers' browsers. TypeaheadListItem.mustache renders page-description data with an unescaped Mustache expression, inserting attacker-controlled HTML into the search-result DOM. Affected releases start at 1.9.4 and end before 3.4.0; exploitation requires the legacy search bar, the Action API gateway, an enabled description source, page-editing access, and a user searching for the crafted page.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
