CVE-2025-53359Network attack vector

Invalid typed-transaction acceptance via unchecked signatures

Published Jul 2, 2025 · Updated Jul 3, 2025

Signature validation in rust-ethereum ethereum before 0.18.0 allows remote attackers to submit malleable typed transactions. The EIP-2930 transaction type stored parity, r, and s as unconstrained public fields, while EIP-1559 and EIP-7702 reused that representation without enforcing the TransactionSignature invariant during decoding. Exposure requires a consumer to accept typed transactions; Ethereum mainnet use permits alternate signatures, while the maintainer states that malleability alone is not a security issue on a single-implementation chain.
