Code execution via current-directory Inkscape search
Published Dec 17, 2025 · Updated Dec 17, 2025
Uncontrolled search path handling in Project Jupyter nbconvert before 7.17.0 allows attackers to execute code during PDF conversion on Windows. The SVG2PDFPreprocessor _inkscape_default method passes the bare Inkscape name to shutil.which, allowing a current-directory inkscape.bat to be selected. Execution requires a user to convert a notebook containing SVG output from the attacker-controlled directory, and the batch file runs with that user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
