CVE-2025-52968

CSRF via browser launch without origin context

Published Jun 23, 2025 · Updated Jun 23, 2025

CSRF in xdg-open in xdg-utils 1.2.1 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to trigger requests with SameSite=Strict cookies. When a desktop application hands an external URL to xdg-open, the launched browser treats it as address-bar navigation and attaches Strict cookies because no untrusted-origin context is conveyed. Exploitation requires a user to activate a crafted link in an integrating application; the classification is disputed because xdg-open cannot distinguish that action from a manually entered command.
