Unauthenticated Administrator creation via arbitrary API import
Published Jun 13, 2025 · Updated Jun 13, 2025
Privilege escalation in REST API | Custom API Generator 1.0.0 through 2.0.3 allows remote attackers to create Administrator accounts. The unauthenticated process_handler() endpoint accepts an attacker-controlled import_api URL and turns retrieved JSON author_data into a WordPress user without a capability check. No account or user interaction is required; setting post_author_role to administrator grants full control of the WordPress site.
