Remote code execution via ESP-NOW length underflow
Published Jun 24, 2025 · Updated Jun 24, 2025
Integer underflow in ESP-NOW reception in Espressif Systems ESP-IDF 5.1.6, 5.2.5, 5.3.3, and 5.4.1 allows remote attackers to write memory. The packet receive function fails to validate a supplied data length before a subtraction, allowing a negative calculation to produce out-of-bounds access and an arbitrary memory write. Exploitation requires a crafted ESP-NOW packet; code execution is limited to targets without memory protection.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
