Code execution via wrapped WebP canvas stride
Published Aug 25, 2025 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Memory corruption in SAIL 0.9.8 WebP decoding allows context-dependent attackers to execute code through a crafted animated image. In sail_codec_load_seek_next_frame_v8_webp, 32-bit canvas-stride arithmetic wraps, and webp_private_fill_color copies color values beyond the undersized heap allocation. The application must be induced to decode the animation, after which code executes in the host process context.
