Administrative access via exposed root password hashes
Published Jul 14, 2025 · Updated Jul 14, 2025
Hard-coded credentials in Tenda CP3 Pro firmware 22.5.4.93 allow attackers with firmware image access to obtain administrative access. The jffs2-root/etc/passwd and jffs2-root/etc/passwd- files store root password hashes in world-readable entries instead of a protected shadow file. Firmware-image access is required; a cracked hash supplies root credentials for Telnet or SSH when either service is exposed, granting full device control.
