Privilege escalation via inline HTML attachments
Published Aug 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 27, 2025
Stored XSS in Helpy.io 2.8.0 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript in a privileged user's browser through a topic attachment. The new-topic endpoint accepts an HTML attachment and later serves it inline without sanitization or protective response headers. Exploitation requires staff or an administrator to open the attachment, after which the script runs with that user's session privileges and can perform privileged actions.
