Template code execution via unsandboxed HTTP metadata
Published Aug 20, 2025 · Updated Aug 20, 2025
Server-side template injection in XWiki 17.3.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute Velocity code through HTTP Meta Info. The Global Preferences Presentation section passes the administrator-controlled HTTP Meta Info value to Apache Velocity for server-side rendering without validation or sandboxing. Administrative access is required; executed template logic can expose internal server data and, when the engine configuration permits, execute server-side code.
