Authenticated command execution through privileged Lua console
Published May 26, 2025 · Updated May 28, 2025
Improper privilege management in Wing FTP Server 7.4.0 through 7.4.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute system commands. The web-based Lua Admin Console passes administrator-supplied Lua to the interpreter, where os.execute invokes operating-system commands as the server service account. System-administrator credentials are required, and execution reaches root or SYSTEM only when the WingFTP service has those privileges; the vendor disputes that this behavior is a vulnerability.
