Process crash via unchecked MDL synctype value
Published May 26, 2025 · Updated May 28, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in Assimp 5.4.3 allows local users to crash an importing process with a crafted 3DGS MDL file. MDLImporter::ImportUVCoordinate_3DGS_MDL345 compares an unsigned iIndex against a negative synctype value, admits an oversized index, and reads past the texture-coordinate heap buffer. Triggering the fault requires local access and processing the malformed model; the demonstrated consequence is a process abort under AddressSanitizer.
