Local crash via unterminated LWO string
Published May 26, 2025 · Updated May 28, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in Assimp 5.4.3 allows local users to crash an importing process with a crafted, unterminated LWO string. LWOImporter::GetS0 checks the maximum length but continues dereferencing the input buffer until a null byte, reading one byte beyond a nonterminated allocation. Exploitation requires causing an application linked to Assimp to import the malicious LWO data; the published reproduction terminates an AddressSanitizer-instrumented process.
