Application crash via unchecked MDC surface offset
Published May 26, 2025 · Updated May 28, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in Assimp 5.4.3 allows local users to crash applications that import a crafted MDC model file. MDCImporter::ValidateSurfaceHeader fails to ensure a surface's ulOffsetEnd stays within the input buffer before advancing pcSurface2, so the next loop iteration reads beyond the loaded file. Exploitation requires a local user to cause an application linked against the library to parse the malformed model, and the demonstrated consequence is a process crash.
