Application takeover via hardcoded administrator credential
Published Aug 4, 2025 · Updated Aug 4, 2025
Hard-coded credentials in Austrian Academy of Sciences OpenAtlas 8.11.0 and earlier allow remote attackers to obtain administrator access. During first installation, the application creates the OpenAtlas account with the publicly visible password change_me_PLEASE! and does not force a password change. Exploitation requires a reachable login and an installation where the globally known default account remains active, granting complete control of the application.
