Remote code execution via unchecked getattr results
Published Jul 27, 2025 · Updated Jul 28, 2025
Code injection in Hugging Face smolagents before 1.17.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through LocalPythonExecutor. Indirect calls to the whitelisted getattr function, including through map or functools.partial, return forbidden submodules without applying the executor's result checks. An application must pass attacker-controlled Python to the local executor; successful exploitation runs code with the host process's privileges.
