Administrator session hijacking via unescaped protocol value
Published Aug 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 27, 2025
Stored XSS in IPFire 2.29 firewall.cgi allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in another administrator's session. The saverule routine stores the PROT rule value without HTML escaping, so firewall.cgi renders attacker-controlled markup when rules are displayed. Exploitation requires high-privilege GUI access and another administrator to view the rules page, exposing that session to hijacking and unauthorized interface actions.
