Disputed code execution via sys.path module shadowing
Published Aug 14, 2025 · Updated Sep 26, 2025
A disputed code-execution claim in Python-Future 0.14.0 and later says local users can run code by placing test.py on sys.path. The standard_library module executes a bare import test while patching Python 2 compatibility, so Python resolves and runs the first matching test.py on sys.path. The advisory was withdrawn because this is documented Python import behavior, and the claimed prerequisite already requires write access to an importable directory.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
