Root shell escape via deviceinfo file argument
Published Aug 26, 2025 · Updated Aug 4, 2026
Privilege escalation in Mitrastar GPT-2741GNAC-N2 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root through its SSH shell. The privileged deviceinfo show file command treats a quoted argument beginning with a newline and /bin/sh as executable shell input instead of a file path, escaping the restricted support shell. Access requires the device's support-account credential, which the disclosure states is printed on the router sticker, and successful exploitation grants unrestricted root command execution.
