Browser script execution via stored blog payload
Published Jul 23, 2025 · Updated Jul 23, 2025
Stored cross-site scripting in Mezzanine CMS 6.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute browser scripts through a crafted blog post. The new-blog-post handler at /blog/blogpost/add accepts script-bearing source content, stores it, and serves it without neutralizing the payload before browser rendering. High-privilege author access is required, and execution occurs when another user opens the published post; the demonstrated effect is content execution in that user's browser, while the HttpOnly session cookie blocks direct session-cookie theft.
