Unauthenticated root command execution via crafted hostname
Published Jul 31, 2025 · Updated Jul 31, 2025
OS command injection in Russound MBX-PRE-D67F firmware 3.1.6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands as root over the network. The network configuration handler passes a crafted hostname parameter to an operating-system command without neutralizing command metacharacters. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation grants root-level control of the appliance.
