Process crash via violated font cleanup invariant
Published Aug 4, 2025 · Updated Aug 26, 2025
Reachable assertion in Cairo 1.18.4 and earlier allows local users to crash a consuming process through crafted PDF content. During FreeType font cleanup, _cairo_ft_unscaled_font_fini asserts that unscaled->face is NULL after crafted PDF processing leaves it populated. Exploitation requires local processing by a Cairo consumer such as Poppler, and the documented consequence is termination of that process.
