Unauthenticated command execution via forged firmware upload
Published Jul 1, 2025 · Updated Jul 1, 2025
Incorrect access control in Intelbras RX1500 firmware 2.2.17 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute commands through HNAP1. The HNAP1 FirmwareUpload and GetFirmwareValidation handlers accept unauthenticated requests, permitting a forged firmware package and its fwu.sh script to reach command execution. Network access to the HNAP1 endpoint is sufficient; exploitation uploads crafted firmware content and runs attacker-chosen commands in the device's firmware-update context.
