Server impersonation via omitted QUIC pin check
Published May 28, 2025 · Updated May 30, 2025
Improper certificate validation in curl 8.5.0 through 8.13.0 allows remote attackers to impersonate HTTPS servers during HTTP/3 transfers. The wolfSSL QUIC path in Curl_vquic_tls_verify_peer omits Curl_wssl_verify_pinned, so a configured public-key pin is never compared with the peer key. Exposure requires a wolfSSL build, QUIC-based HTTP/3, certificate pinning, and an impostor server; HTTP/1 and HTTP/2 pinning remains effective.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
