Local privilege escalation via use-after-free
Published Oct 14, 2025 · Updated Oct 14, 2025
Use-after-free in Windows Digital Media in affected Windows builds allows local users with low privileges to elevate privileges. The component accesses an object after its memory has been freed, but Microsoft has not disclosed the affected file, function, object type, or attacker-controlled trigger. A local account with low privileges is required, and successful exploitation can give that account elevated control of the affected host without another user's interaction.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
