Privilege escalation in Schneider Electric EcoStruxure IT Data Center Expert 8.3 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to gain root. The Charon executable accepts attacker-defined service entries and executes their supplied start and stop commands as root. Exploitation requires console access with a privileged account or a previously obtained low-privileged shell, and successful use grants full appliance control.
