CVE-2025-49831Public exploitNetwork attack vector

AWS identity impersonation via unvalidated STS region

Published Jul 15, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

IAM authentication bypass in CyberArk Conjur OSS before 1.22.1 allows remote attackers to impersonate arbitrary AWS identities. The extract_sts_region method accepts a region parsed from attacker-controlled Host or Authorization headers and inserts it into an STS URL without rejecting URL metacharacters. Exploitation requires AWS IAM authentication and traffic through a misconfigured network device; affected Secrets Manager, Self-Hosted releases expose the same loss of authentication trust.
