CVE-2025-4981Network attack vector

Authenticated arbitrary file write via archive path traversal

Published Jun 20, 2025 · Updated Jun 20, 2025

Path traversal in affected Mattermost 9.11 and 10.x releases allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary files on the server. The archiveExtractor.Extract method passes an attacker-controlled archive name to filepath.Join with a temporary directory and creates the resulting path without rejecting traversal sequences. File attachments and content extraction must both be enabled; both settings are enabled by default, and writes to executable locations can lead to remote code execution.
