CVE-2025-49714

Local code execution via untrusted workspace activation

Published Jul 8, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026

Code execution in Microsoft Python extension for Visual Studio Code before 2025.8.1 allows local users to run code through a crafted workspace. The package manifest marked untrusted workspaces as limited support instead of disabling the extension, leaving checked-in Python executables within its trust boundary. Exploitation requires a user to open a malicious untrusted workspace, after which code runs with that user's privileges.
