SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link file deletion
Published Jun 17, 2025 · Updated Jun 18, 2025
Link following in Trend Micro Internet Security before 17.8.1464 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM. The Platinum Host Service follows an attacker-created symbolic link while deleting a file, allowing a protected file to be removed. Low-privileged code execution on a Windows host is required, and successful exploitation grants SYSTEM-level code execution.
