CVE-2025-49384

SYSTEM code execution via symbolic-link file deletion

Published Jun 17, 2025 · Updated Jun 18, 2025

Link-following privilege escalation in Trend Micro Internet Security before 17.8.1464 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The Windows Platinum Host Service follows an attacker-created symbolic link and deletes the link target with SYSTEM privileges. Low-privileged code execution on the host is required; deleting a privileged file can enable arbitrary code execution as SYSTEM.
